With over 10 times the amount of veterans lost to suicide than to combat operations in the same time period, there has never been a more important time to TAKE A STAND and DO something to support our veterans!! If you or someone you know is suffering from PTSD, we have people that have shared a similar experience and are ready to help.

As yesterday's defenders of freedom, we want to welcome today's military service members into our ranks to become part of our elite group.  Our common bond is the battlefield, whether it was service in Vietnam, the Persian Gulf, Korea, Kosovo, the war on terrorism, or peacekeeping expeditionary campaigns. Your courage and sacrifice have made a difference in preserving and defending world peace.

October 2026

This October, we are having a Halloween party on the 24th. There will be live music, food, and a costume contest. Tickets are $15 in advance, or $20 at the door. Tickets are available at the Canteen.

 

October is the season for high school students to submit their "Voice of Democracy” audio-essay for a chance to win a $30,000 scholarship, and middle school students to participate in the "Patriot's Pen" essay contest with a $5,000 grand prize. This year’s theme is "What a Veteran Taught Me About America.” The deadline for entry is October 31st, submitted to local VFW posts. Rules and information are available at our post and online at VFW.org -> Community -> Youth & Education.

 

The VFW also offers other community recognition awards such as Teacher of the Year, and First Responder of the Year (Law Enforcement, Firefighter, EMT), as well as Scout of the Year (from Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Sea Scouts, or Venturing Crew). If you wish to submit a nomination, please let us know.
